Spell Words
In Anacapia, any word can become a spell word as long as you do the work to write it. (And find a qualified wordsmith to scribe it into your vade—which isn’t easy given that the government is fighting to prevent independent magic. They want all spells regulated and controlled by the government…)
While everyday spells can use everyday words, when you’re writing offensive and defensive spells designed to protect you and your loved ones, you’ll want to select an obscure word that won’t reveal to your opponent what the spell does in advance. (Twenty-five cent words, as Rove calls them.) That’s why it’s best to choose obscure words such as these:
Brimborion – a word meaning worthless nonsense, trash
Buccellation – act of dividing into small morsels
Carapace – a hard layer that covers and protects animals such as crabs and turtles
Celeripedean – swift-footed
Fumificate – to make or cause smoke or incense
Gelicide – a frost
Jungible – that may be joined
Lugent – weeping; mourning
Murklins – in the dark
Obrumpent – breaking; bursting
Petrogenesis – formation or development of rocks
Resarciate – to mend; to make amends
Scathefire – great destructive fire; conflagration
Sospital – keeping safe and healthy; preserving from danger
Terraqueous – amphibious; consisting of land and water
Torpid – numb; lethargic; having lost the power to act
Tremefy – to cause to tremble
